Going from Good to Green
What does it take for today's good homebuilding companies to become great, green homebuilding companies?
We believe that it's critical for homebuilders to have a holistic picture of where their business stands today, what value they want green building to deliver for themselves and their customers, and the changes they need to make along the way to successfully transform their company or division from good to green.
Alliance members have found that they can achieve as much as 50% greater energy efficiency, while providing safety, health, durability and comfort for their homeowners. They've delivered great, green homes, but few builders and developers, in general, have taken the leap and chosen to become great, green homebuilding companies.
With little historical information and a lot of green noise in the marketplace, there isn't a clear picture of how these companies should operate. The goal of the Alliance's Blueprint program is to develop that picture and share it with the industry-providing business models, technologies, and strategies builders can use to consistently and profitably make green, high-performance homes the focus of their business.
Through the Blueprint program, we're identifying best practices green homebuilders employ during five key phases of operations: Planning & Development, Product Design & Purchasing, Marketing & Home Sales, Home Construction, and Customer Care.
To gather this information, the Alliance will:

Analyze successful builders and look for the common threads and key differentiators in their approaches to designing and delivering high-performance homes

Implement green building technologies and strategies in the field on an ongoing basis, gathering hands-on information and experience

Observe builders as they transform their businesses-from initial discussions to strategic planning processes and from product testing to broader implementation

Share information internally and brainstorm new approaches through our private online community
