Homes is a leader in high performance homebuilding in the San
Antonio market. The builder is the first in San Antonio to certify
100 percent of their homes under the Build San Antonio Green
program and the EPA ENERGY STAR new homes program.
Imagine Homes' 2009 goal is to register all of their homes to
meet the Department of Energy's Builders Challenge. This means the
builder's homes will achieve a HERS rating of 70 or lower and
adhere to the Builders Challenge Quality Criteria, a set of best
practices for durability, comfort, and indoor air quality in
homes.
For two consecutive years, the builder has been recognized by
the National Association of Home Builders. In 2008, Imagine Homes
won the NAHB Green Building Award for Single-Family Production Home
of the Year. In 2009, they won the NAHB National Green Building
Award for Affordable Home of the Year.
Imagine Homes has partnered with
IBACOS, a Building America research team leader, to evaluate its
business processes, adapt their standard models to meet higher
efficiency goals and improved performance objectives, and develop
new strategies to manage change within their business. Imagine is
already building homes that are 40 percent more energy efficient
than a typical new home as its standard option, and are working
towards specifying homes at the 50 percent level. The higher level
of energy efficiency has been achieved through a combination of
mechanical equipment upgrades, improved envelope and duct sealing,
a conditioned attic, ductwork located inside conditioned space,
more efficient appliance and lighting packages, and a properly
sized HVAC system.
