IBACOS® and its Best Practices Research Alliance® (the Alliance), a collaborative research-based organization studying strategies to improve quality and performance in American homebuilding, officially opened the Energy Efficiency Lab Home with S&A Homes at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Cobblestone Manor Estates in Ohio Township.
The Lab Home is part of a national, multi-year research effort to identify design, construction, and business strategies for making highly energy-efficient homes affordable on a mass scale for both homebuilders and consumers. Zero energy homes use a combination of energy conservation measures and renewable energy sources to produce as much energy as they consume – all but wiping out a homeowner’s energy bills.
This effort is being led by IBACOS, the founder of the Alliance and a team leader for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America program. The Lab Home was constructed by leading regional builder S&A Homes and will be used as a research and educational tool for the next three years.
Opening remarks were offered by IBACOS, S&A Homes, and The Meritage Group (the developer of Cobblestone), as well as the Chairman of Ohio Township, Herb Hartle, and Pennsylvania State Representative Mark Mustio. Guided tours were offered, and representatives of IBACOS, S&A Homes, and many of the 40+ trade and supplier partners were on hand to answer questions about this unique project.
